St. Moritz invites you to
“AMUSEMENTS ON THE LAKE”
In January and February 2021, the frozen Lake St. Moritz has a multitude of new offers for guests of the Engadin Alpine metropolis: under the title “Amusements on the Lake”, there are varied outdoor activities such as ice skating, Ice stock sport, cross-country skiing, winter golf or skijoring for carefree hours under the St. Moritz sun. Winter normally attracts up to 10,000 spectators per day to the frozen Lake St. Moritz when major events such as the Snow Polo World Cup, the White Turf horse races or the automobile event The ICE take place. Due to the current situation, events are only possible to a very limited extent this winter season. The St. Moritz tourism officials have therefore given their creativity free rein and created a number of attractive offers. Lake St. Moritz has a lot of space and is therefore ideally suited to keep your distance, to soak up the sun in the fresh air and to exercise.
From ice skating to skikjöring, the core of the “Amusements on the Lake” is an ice rink around one kilometer long, which is prepared for ice skaters every day. In addition, as in previous years, a standardized 400-meter track is being set up on which the Swiss speed skating championships are to take place in January. A cross-country ski run that leads across the lake and winter hiking trails are also part of the basic offer. But that’s not all: if the situation allows, guests can look forward to an ice hockey rink, a curling rink and a small village with deck chairs, beach chairs, music and food stands. There are also plans to offer skijoring lessons. Skikjöring is a winter sport in which a skier lets himself be pulled by a horse on a rope. It has a centuries-old tradition on Lake St. Moritz and is celebrated at the annual horse races. Depending on the restrictions, there is also space for small events. The snow sports arena, which is now available on Lake St. Moritz this January and February, also offers space for small events. Depending on the restrictions, evening ice discos are possible on a specially prepared ice field. To this end, Badrutt’s Palace Hotel is planning a Winter Long-Drive Golf Clinic with coach Ilija Djurdjevic (European Long Drive Gold Champion). And the automotive event The ICE wants to draw attention to the upcoming event in February 2022 with a small event. Adrian Ehrbar, Director of St. Moritz Tourism, is looking forward to “Amusements on the Lake” and is optimistic: “Even in these times, we want to offer our guests a first-class offer that reflects the spirit of St. Moritz. Whatever the situation allows, we make the possible possible. ”
